No Tryouts on Wednesday, November 18th (Home Volleyball game)
Thanks for being flexible. Make sure you get registered before tryouts begin on Tuesday. Here’s the registration information again.
Also, I met with the players who were at an open gym last week and shared with them this tryout process information. Please read and share with your son. The document describes the tryout process, including the characteristics that we coaches look for when evaluating players who will make our teams. You should gain a better understanding of the team selection process by reading this document.
Coaches often use the phrase play hard. Here’s a second document that tries to define what it means to “play harder.” If you want to give your son a “pep” talk before tryouts, this document may be a good starting point.
As coaches, we recognize the courage it takes for players to come to these tryouts and give their best effort knowing that nearly 1 in 2 players won’t make a team. Whether your son makes a team or not, simply stepping out of his comfort zone to allow himself to be judged as a basketball player will be an experience he will remember and grow from. As coaches, we tell each player that making this team does not define you as a person. We remind each of them that if you continue to give your best effort, you will go on to accomplish more significant achievements than making the high school basketball team.
Good luck to all the players. We look forward to seeing them on Tuesday!
